The company’s move to hire new managers come at a time when it is under the spotlight due to many of its senior managerial positions held by individuals serving in acting capacities.

The trend has been at the company for a while now. When its then Managing Director Bernard Ngugi exited in a huff in August 2021, it took the utility nearly two years to appoint Dr Joseph Siror as his successor in May 2023.

In between, Rosemary Oduor, who is currently serving as the general manager in charge of commercial services, and Geoffery Muli both served in acting capacities at the helm of the company.

Kenya Power is also hiring a customer experience officer IV to do graphic design. The successful applicant will be reporting to the manager in charge of customer experience.

This also comes at a time when the company has revealed that it has a staffing deficit of 2,981 workers which it plans to fill by accelerating employment. The announcement will be good news to Kenyans who harbor dreams of working at the company, which is one of Kenya’s largest employers.

Kenya Power employed 846 new workers in the financial year to June 2024. But these have not been enough to fill its staffing deficit.

However, the hiring is coming with an additional financial burden to the company. Kenya Power’s employee costs hit a record Ksh19.89 billion during the year, up from Ksh16.04 billion in the previous year. This includes salaries and wages, allowances, contributions to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and pension.
